Wildwood, NJ

Here's a great site that's all about the boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ - it's piers, and memorable attractions.

It brought back many pleasant childhood memories, such as the Keystone Kops ride, and a few unpleasant ones like the Hell Hole, which always scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.

I was fairly obsessed with the massive King Kong attraction (above) - which receives extensive coverage on the site. I remember playing miniature golf directly across from it, and showing it a very healthy respect. Details of it's demise are somewhat touching, actually.

Pat Paulsen

Here's a clip of Pat Paulsen on The Merv Griffin Show in the 70's. It was so controversial, it never aired. See if you can guess why.

By the way - the guy on Merv's right at the beginning of the clip is Doug McClure - the model for Troy McClure on The Simpsons.

50 Worst Album Covers

Here are Newsday's 50 Worst Album Covers.

Ed McMahon

Today brought the devastating news that Ed McMahon's home is in danger of foreclosure. You tend to think that guys like Ed would have socked enough away over the years so that things like this would never happen to them, but apparently not. Ed's blaming the foreclosure on no longer being able to work following a broken neck (!) suffered 18 months ago. Isn't it kind of depressing that Ed still has to work at age 85?

Let's go back to happier times for Ed. When he was still television's most beloved second banana, and he had enough clout to convince a record company to release a pathetic vanity project. (MP3 courtesy of AprilWinchell.com)

A Day in the Life

In 1967, The Beatles planned a full-length video version of their then-upcoming album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. They went so far as to finish the "A Day in the Life" segment - which is viewable here - before abandoning the concept.

Beau Brummels

The Beau Brummels were a pretty good British Invasion band from the mid-60's - that just happened to hail from San Francisco, California. (Who says you have to be from the U.K. to play a British Invasion style?) They had a Monkees/Herman's Hermits vibe - which wasn't such a bad thing back then.

If you want to hear a really good Beau Brummels song, go directly to iTunes and check out "Don't Talk To Strangers".

Anyway, today's clip is from the band's mid-60's "appearance" (as The Beau Brummelstones) on The Flintstones. It's an animated (barely) version of their hit "Laugh, Laugh" - which was kind of a morose choice for the show that gave us The Great Gazoo.

Venture Bros.

A new season of The Venture Bros. has started up on Cartoon Network (Adult Swim). If you like to laugh, I seriously recommend you check it out. And also seek out some of the older episodes running on OnDemand if you can.

To kick off our new "Go Listen" tag, I direct you to this recording of the show's real stars - Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend - doing a re-recording of "Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth" as David Bowie and Bing Crosby. (If I wasn't already a fan of the show, that description would warrant an automatic WTF™ tag).
