When I worked in downtown Philadelphia, I used to notice this strange engraving in the sidewalk which mentioned "Toynbee", "Kubrick" and "2001".At first, I assumed it was just one of the million or so garage bands in the area promoting itself. When I started seeing them all over the city, I thought it might be a street art campaign like "Obey the Giant" or something like that.
Turns out nobody knows what it is - but the speculation is fascinating.
