In one memorable episode of Blackadder Goes Forth, Rowan Atkinson's character describes Charlie Chaplin as being "about as funny as getting an arrow through the neck...and then discovering there's a gas bill tied to it".
There was a time when I might have agreed with this assessment of Chaplin - but then one day I actually sat down and watched City Lights, Modern Times, and a few of his other classic films - and became a fan for life.
TCM is showing a bunch of them all-day tomorrow (Saturday) - including my favorite: City Lights. Some people say the ending is the greatest in movie history; it's certainly up there.
City Lights airs tomorrow at 4:15 PM EDT. If you haven't seen it yet, please do - and let me know what you think of it (and the ending).
